Anyone care to lay odds on Rolf Harris getting a knighthood in the next honours list?

Yep... Mel & I saw the programme of his painting. It would be nice to see him be recognised formally (even if he was knighted he could be called 'sir' as he was not born a UK citizen). I have a great deal of respect for him and find it strange that many Australian's don't like him, or find him a bit of a joke (assuming what I have been told is accurate). If true, it seems a shame that one of Australia's greatest exports is so poorly thought of, when they should be proud of him

I'm no expert, but in as much as Australia is still subject to the monarchy does this not mean that the citizens of that 'noble place' can receive (and use) titles etc.
As I say, not an area of expertise of mine; but I'm sure I do remember Aussies in the past who have been Knights of the Realm etc.

He can in fact be given the title 'Sir'. IIRC you must be of Commonwealth heritage, not UK heritage, to be eligible for a knighthood, otherwise an honourary knighthood is in order where you cannot be called 'Sir'. Since Australia is a member of the Commonwealth, Sir Rolf Harris is quite possible!

Well, if a fine Irishman like Michael Terence Wogan can be called "Sir", then I'm certain sure that Rolf can use the same handle if/when it's granted to him. (As my father, proud Galwayman that he is, keeps reminding me, anyone born in what's now the republic of Ireland pre-1949 can claim British citizenship/subjugation...)

I saw that programme as well. Rolf is a top bloke who has worked hard to entertain us. If they can give Cliff Richard a Knighthood, they can give Rolf one.
Arise, Sir Rolf!

For the man that taught me to swim at the age of 14 via the medium of television (!) he gets my nomination for that honour. An all round thoroughly good bloke too. ;D How? He stated and demonstrated that a man with a lung full of air cannot sink. It is fundamental to the skill of swimming and was something that my school swimming teacher ****** **** never mentioned – I’m sure he didn’t know.
