Hello everybody. I will be off to London on 19th and as you would expect I will spend a good part of my day visiting the tube (3 to 4 hours in the morning). As I still don't know the LU quite well I would like to know if you have any advice about what to see in priority. Also do you know any terminal station (open one not underground one) where I would be able to take some good photos of stock parked here. Thanks in advance. Edit: Sorry to have edited this subject into the wrong forum . can any moderator move it to the appropriate one please.

If you want to see lots of trains coming and going all the time I'd advise the footbridge at Earls Court District. It's just outside the central area too so not much travelling to it. For a terminal station I'd advise Ealing Broadway (about 30 mins away from central area) as there is Central and District trains there, not strictly a terminus, but Arnos Grove on the Picc is an interesting old station too. Uxbridge would probably give you some interesting pics, as it is on the Metropolitan (oldest rolling stock on LU) and Piccadilly lines so quite varied. However it is quite a ride from Central London

However it is quite a ride from Central London I will buy a 1 to 6 zones Travelcard thanks to my young persons railcard, so I don't really care if i go as far as zone 6. I was thinking of Uxbridge too myself but I think that I will keep this one for another time when I will have more knowledge of LU. Ealing Broadway is definitly worth considering as the Central line runs not very far away from Paddington.

It's a bit difficult to say which parts of the tube you should see first, as it all depends on what you are interested in. Certainly I would definately recommend seeing the Jubilee Line Extension stations, and Baker Street (H&C/Circle). Maybe also a look at the Aldgate Triangle, Earl's Court, Thames Tunnel (Wapping, East London Line), Waterloo and City Line, and Bank EB (Central) wouldn't go a miss.
Answering you question about termini for taking photos, how about Stratford? You can take photos of the Jubilee trains at the terminus of the line. If you are lucky you may see a 7-car 96TS! There is also a good vantage point from the first road bridge to the south of Stratford station. Also at Stratford you can get photos of the Central Line, DLR, and NR is you are that way inclined, and its not too far from Central London.

Well you can get a Great Western Link (overground) train from Padd to Eal Bdy. Looking on the National Rail Enquiries site, some journeys are only around 7 minutes long

Stratford seems a good place to me to take some nice photos of 96 stock, seems quite photogenic.
Shame about the stock though.

If you don't visit London very often Dunois it might be an idea to photograph the D stock while they're in their original state - they are at the moment the only pre - refurb stock from that era.

OK in that case I think that a Paddington-> Baker Street-> Stratford-> Ealing Broadway-> Earl's Court-> Covent Garden (where I will start shopping in the afternoon) is really worth considering for a first real taste of LU. Thanks to everybody for your suggestions.

Edit: Sorry to have edited this subject into the wrong forum . can any moderator move it to the appropriate one please. This seems to be the most appropriate place As for your question; some good suggestions there - just one thing to add, there's a reduced service on the Jubilee at present (running only around 67%) because of the 7 car project, so you may wan't to avoid actually travelling on it unless like being squashed in! ;D

The tube is much quieter in the week before Christmas anyway.

Hmm....... is the reduced service gonna become a normal, full service soon? It will be totally suspended between christmas and the 30th December whilst all trains are made up to 7 cars and tested. The service will return on the 31st, in time for the new year celebrations.

There's just a slight difference in how busy the Jubilee is between West Ham on a Saturday, and Baker Street SB at 8:30am on a weekday! You would be lucky to be able to board at train at Baker Street at that time in the morning, as the train is quite often already full to capacity.

The young man is planning a visit on a Monday, which as stephenk quite rightly points out - is very different to a Saturday!

I managed to ride a train like this from Ealing Broadway to Earl's Court on the District line and I managed to take some photos of the particularities of the non-refurbs trains.
