I'm hoping to capture audio from the tube.....
What should I use and what should I record it onto?

I personally would use something like an mp3 player with recording capabilites. It's small, can take reasonably good sound clip and easy to stick on your computer.

I've tried my MP3 player, and have found out that its AGC is very poor, so loud sounds are very distorted. I'd likely use my movie camera - it copes with loud sounds very well. So, I'd suggest to try and see (listen the results .
