Got meself a new computer, to replace the life expired Packard Bell. Got a floppy drive on my new one, so want to transfer my scans from the old comp. gets the files copied across to floppy, no probs. I puts disk into new computer, and use the mouse to point to scan for viruses. Doesnt work. How strange... it suddenly dawns on me i'm using the OLD computer's mouse while looking at my new comp's screen! As Homer Simpson would say: D'OH!!!Lets try again! ;D

Oh - I go one better than that!!
Quite often if I'm trying to sort a network problem out I have the laptop on my desk and have been known to use the touchscreen mouse to try and work the main PC and then the PC keyboard to type into the laptop.
Let's be honest here - men should not try to multi-task (or so my wife tells me.........)

Men just don't DO multi-tasking.
On the wider issue, I have often wondered if the controller coming on the radio at a critical time (such as entering stations) can distract T/ops to an extent that they (nearly) make a mistake?
Particularly if he is calling 'your' number so you have to listen actively. Is it ever dangerous? Anyone prepared to admit it?
I've been in similar situations on the WSR approaching a foot crossing (not from radio this time) and it can be VERY dangerous to be distracted.
How do you LU guys deal with it?

One thing I was always taught in training, and which I still observe today is that if the controller calls you up while you are approaching a red signal, or entering a station, or something similar - ignore him. Yeah, he's important - but not worth having a SPAD or over running a station for. Then call him back when it's convenient. But in a general sense, distractions are always dangerous for a driver - My one and only SPAD (hopefully, the last!) was down to a distraction

Scans on floppies?! See you at midnight! They were bitmap, jpeg, .wav and some real audio files. I think I could make it easier on myself if I e-mailed them to myself. Duh! [too many hours worked + too many hours staying up late = tiredness]

how do the people who get the audio for BVE collect it?? Microphone, or through a camcorder (just audio) or what? Anything that can record sound and has a good AGC. Out of my own gadgets, I'll most likely opt for the camcorder, as my MP3 player seems to have a very poor AGC, so loud sounds appear very distorted .

Only trouble is the poxy thing won't connect to my broadband modem Have you installed it like you did before, using the software? Another problem might be that the software is not XP compatible (assuming you are XP)

Joe - various - all the ones I've done personally are via my digital camera but others have been recorded by others on a microphone.

After spending two hours trying to load the cd, and spending an hour on hold to speak to blueyonder support (well, I am persistent if nothing else), it turns out XP is so clever I should have thrown the cd in the bin. A click here, a click there - job done. It took the bloke on the phone 30 seconds to have me on-line [/rant] sort of Hopefully XP should be compatible with your broadband modem yet knowing Windows... what is the exact problem? *note to self* next time, ask you lot. Cheers anyway, but as you can see it's done now.

Well, my new computer does everything, except make the tea. Ooops! Did I mention that railmans favourite drink? I've just been amusing myself with the capabilities of the all in one CD/DVD drive. This new comp of mine's got Windows XP Media Centre. As I type, I'm listening to a favourite CD...
