This will probably have more relevance to older members. In your experience do you think taking VS is a curse or a blessing?I have known 3 people who have took the money and things didn't turn out well
1.Jim Murphy-Depot Foreman Ruislip, dropped dead from a heart attack a month after getting his cheque. 2.Jock Connelly-Depot Foreman Hainault, dead from stomach cancer within 5 years of leaving. 3.Coco Lewis-Deputy Foreman Golders Green.A dodgy character was Coco, loved a drink and a bet.He got his cheque for around £65,000,unfortunately he neglected to tell his wife anything about it,his plan was to scoot home to Grenada with the money. We had all sorts of baliffs and others at the Green looking for Coco,no doubt sent by his wife.About 4 years after he left I ran into one of the Golders chaps at Euston and he told me that Coco was back in the country and didn't have a pot to p*ss in.Looks like the wife caught up with him!!!

Voluntary Severence. The term LU uses for voluntary redundancy.
(Perhaps I'm a bit too young to know what it means?)

Always useful to know such things though, as you never know what the future holds. Voluntary Severance can certainly cause heaps of problems if not dealt with carefully. A sudden huge 'slug' of money can be very unsettling to somebody who is not accustomed to it, as can not having to work anymore after many years of doing it. Work, although a f***ing nuisance at times, at least helps to keep people 'on the rails' if you know what I mean. And literally in my case!! ;D ;D

Reminds me of a bloke at my dads work loading a fork lift truck, he'd unlocked the fork and lift and pushed it forward, and he got in between the fork and the cab, the poor lad didn't lock it and the thing flew back and crushed him. 10 minutes later paramedics arrived and he was pronounced dead on the scene The poor bloke
