Alas, I have one more week of A/L, and after returning from a rather expensive trip to Berlin, I was becoming bored, so...
About 4 years ago, I managed to get meself a set of seat cushions from a 59ts DM, that was at Golders Green, waiting for its fate. Well, today, I made good use of these cushions. Getting up at 10am, I placed the seats on the roof terrace, and proceeded to whack them with an old tennis racket. If you spotted a grey dusty cloud passing your way, you can blame me! An hour or so later and a few minutes with a high suction vacuum cleaner and a few more whacks, they were deemed fit to pass muster. I constructed a box out of left over tongue and groove wood panels and made a framework for the lid, onto which I placed the lid, which was of course the seat cushion. A few hinges and there we have it. A 59ts Storage Box!!! Only took three hours to put it all together. I then spent the next few hours, in between cups of tea, sorting out all my work related stuff. It's nearly full. Amazing how much clobber you can collect in just 5 years on the job!
Oh well, what shall I do tomorrow???

I'm beginning to sound like a right nutter now, but in addition to the Seats, I basically stripped the cab too. Duplex Gauge, Brake Handle, Deadman Handle and relay box, destination blind, route number flappers, oh the cab door tread, and a few other odds and ends. The fitter said to me as I was loading up the van: "Why not just take the whole f****in car then?" Good idea, but I don't think the council would have been best pleased with it parked outside my house! [then again, I spoose the local chavs would have made good use of it if I had bought the entire car...

Shrewd fella! if ever you're short of cash this stuff would fetch a fortune on ebay. My only souvenir from LT is an upstairs bell push from a scrap trolleybus at Colindale (in the days when souvenir hunters were almost encouraged)

Why not just dump the cars in a siding and save a load on scrappers fees by getting enthusiasts to do it for them?!

save a load on scrappers fees by getting enthusiasts to do it for them?! Because scrappers pay for the vehicles and take them away complete whilst the enthusiasts would want it all for free and there would still be a mess for someone to clear up.

Shrewd fella! if ever you're short of cash this stuff would fetch a fortune on ebay. Well, I was once offered £40 for the Destination Blind Box, which I have since adapted so that it works on a plug in flourescent light! Yep, maybe in a few years it could go to a good home. If possible, I might even try and bolt the deadman and brake handle assembly to the wall. I have a selection of other junk from other trains aswell. My spare room looks a bit like the Mayer Parry scrapyard!!!

I've also got a bench seat from a 59 stock. It's in the Blue green moquette. I've designed a base for it to go on and even have the timber, but haven't got round to it yet. I've only had it for 6 years.
