I see the met office are warning of a severe winter. In that case I look forward with great glee to seeing the tube operating companies state of total unpreparedness when it does strike. I also anticipate some of the excuses and downright lies that will be trotted out to cover for the lack of foresight. (Which will, of course, be the result of the usual parsimony of having to lay out some cash without a return)

Bob, I think this is the exact reason why Ken Livingstone has went out of his way to appear on London Tonight etc warning about these predictions. He's not stupid, he knows there's a chance the predictions may not happen, but this way he's covered all of the bases and when the PPP companies turn around and say they weren't prepared, he can say "But I warned everyone on the 19th October!"

Yep Alan he did. But will the infraco's listen? No, course they won't as he is seen as 'Red Ken' as a opposed to 'Terrific Tony' who had filled all their pockets with lovely cash.

Hint - Testing heating when you pick up your train! Indeed, the saloon heating which has been set to 'winter' settings all summer will have to be switched to 'summer' settings before the big freeze starts! ;D (I'm being sarcastic, of course, but it sometimes does seem that the thermostats on the trains aren't adjusted and are still freezing cold during the winter!)

I see the met office are warning of a severe winter. Oh that would be the same Met office that fails to report the forecast accurately for the next few days, let alone weeks, and also the same Met Office that fills it's televised weather "forecasts" with news of weather which has already happened. Remember the last time they warned everyone? Many services basically shutdown "just in case" and then it did nothing but a light flurry.

Hmm... begining to think I shouldn't have signed for the Inverness route...
Oh well, knee deep snow, 9 car trains, short platforms you can't see and unstaffed stations here I come... should be interesting!
