If the driver closes the train doors while an announcment is playing, will the announcement stop?
i was listening to the sounds for the refurbished d stocks on thelondontube.co.uk and it sounded like when the doors shut the announcement was cut short.
eg. "This is the district line train to . . ." and no destination.

Nah, the announcements carry on playing. The T/Op can cancel the Announcement by pressing the PA button in the cab while the announcement is playing. This will override any announcement. There is also a facility, on the 92's and 95's at least, to disable all messages, except Please Mind the Gap between Train and Platform and such like

While on most stocks the announcement will continue, on the refurbished D stocks, once the door close button is pressed, the announcement will stop.

I was told that the D stock annoucnements stop when the doors are closed because the door chimes use the same speakers as the PA, but other stocks have separate speakers. Anyone confirm/deny?

Not sure if it is the same speakers, but it certainly is the same system. Whereas on the C stock, there is a separate system for the door chimes and the PA/DVA, on the refurb D stock they both use the CIS, so the door chimes override the DVA

That's the only thing which I actually prefer about C stocks to the refurbed D stocks... Much better DVA, and much easier to use! Press number 3 for a "stand clear of the doors" and she says it straight away... No waiting ten seconds while it initialises like on the D stocks!

It seems the door chimes are linked to the CIS on D stocks. There is one unit that crashes every so often until you change ends on the train. Whilst it crashed, the external displays worked, but there were no door chimes/ open noises and no announcements (other than those made on the falback pa) were available whether it be manual or automaic.

I had a refurb that was quite happy from Richmond until I changed the destination from Upminster to Barking (at Bromley). Then it went into a sulk like trainopd78 describes.

Unit 7012 is the one i've had problems with. It's done it since delivery. When another I/O and myself were having a play to refamiliarise ourselves before delivering the course to others, it went wrong. We tried everything. Changed ends at Olympia and it fired up as if nothing was wrong. Got back to the west end - and fine. Just throws a wobbly periodically. Bombardier know about it and cant sort it. Glad it did it then, so at least I knew about the defect if it went wrong whilst running a refirb course. An east end unit playing up? Don't tell me its a design flaw.

I always leave the PA handset off the cradle on the refurbs, then I let her annonuce the name of the station then press the PA over-ride button to shut her up. Also, I almost had a heart attack the other night when entering Ealing Broadway for the last time I pressed the 'Not In Service' button to stop her waffling etc, and when I'd changed ends and was waiting to go to depot, she suddenly chirps into life with her "This is Ealing Broadway" etc etc. I almost needed a change of pants!

Is it me, or have 'they' changed em so that when you put your key in after changing ends, it automatically reannounces the last thing it did? Cos it done it at Tower Hill the other day (7012/7081) - and all the punters got excited thinking the train was about to leave, yet I actually had another 5 mins sitting there.

Indeed they have modified it as you say, as part of the last update to the software, when they added all the disruption announcements. (BTW - I hope you have all learnt all the various announcements and their numbers - there are only about 12 A4 pages of them )

I had my first refurb last night and was surprised how long it takes for the announcements to start, at most stations I was closing the doors when all that was announced was "This is....."

Ah, but have you done a number 3 announcement yet? Takes around 20 seconds for itself to set up and say stand clear of the doors. By the time it comes out over the PA system, you've gone and are half way to the next station. ;D

BTW where can the list of numbers be found then?

From what I've been told, during disruptions, the controller will announce the code which drivers will then enter into the system and it will announce it at the appropriate place! If the disruption clears before you reach it, you have to then enter the menu system and remove the appropriate number! Spot the obvious flaw in the above paragraph! The controllers tell us nothing now, so I can't imagine them giving us code numbers on a routine basis!

'They' should just tell the people that matter the codes (ie the drivers) - like you say, with our controllers, it'll be britains best kept secret! ;D
I have an idea - perhaps the freedom of information act has a use after all!! ;D ;D ;D
