I was driving (well being driven) along the A30 yesterday afternoon past all the resevoirs when i saw a heck of a lot of Black Smoke Coming up from the South Side of the Airport and rising at least 1000ft into the air. Does anyone here know what it was?? my little brother was s**ting himself thinking it was a plane crash...

Is there a refinery nearby? Nope. It could have been something to do with the T5 works I guess.

It is true to say Airport fire services do a lot of 'live training' with real fires. Also Heathrow does have quite extensive facilities to aid this.
