Quick question:
How many trains per hour terminate/start from Debden?
Also, do they (Debden trains) always terminate at Ruislip Gardens or does this change?
Sorry for the dull question - it's just I found myself on a Debden-Ruislip Gardens train this morning and loved it! (Couldn't get on at Epping today) :-(

Hmm...not too sure about the exact frequency but it is a few moves in the peaks which reverse at Debden. As for Ruislip Gardens I believe them to travel to all destinations, as I have been on a Debden starter going to Ealing Broadway and also West Ruislip in recent times.

In the evening peak, the pattern on the Epping branch is usually:
Epping Loughton Epping Debden
every 4 minutes, and this repeats, although sometimes there are consecutives Eppings.
Trains starting from Debden go to different destinations, not just Ruislip Gardens.
In the past, some evening peak trains terminated at Dedben, and ran empty to Loughton sidings, although in the current timetable, they all return back in service.
Debden used to have 2 sidings, and reversed many more trains - in those days, the Epping service was quite meagre.
In the next timetable, I believe it is intended, in the peaks, for 2 out of 3 Epping branch trains to run to Epping, with the other third reversing at Debden.
Hope this helps!

One thing I have never satisfactorily worked out is that on the 1980?? Auto-Tube Rambler with 8-car 1967 Stock we traversed the loop in auto mode both ways I seem to recall, but we also ran through 'sidings' or 'loops' en route both ways. I knew zilch about the Central eastern section then and so did not take too much notice but they appeared to have been stabling sidings accessible from both ends. I am certain that the track has altered but where were they? Logic suggests somewhere around Woodford.

As a part of the Central line upgrade project in the 90s, the (then) one ended sidings at Newbury Park and Debden were given a connection at both ends, although the 2 sidings in each location were reduced to 1. Woodford no. 21 road (the track where trains from Hainault reverse) was also given a connection at the west end to the main line. Also, the siding west of Leytonstone was converted to a through track. Back in 1980, I'm not sure where these loops you are referring to were - anyone else have any ideas?
