What's under the booking hall is quite interesting too, a veritable warren of rooms and passageways as I recall from the last time I worked there circa 1995. I did some CLP enabling works there so that some of the disused area could be used to build new equipment rooms. What I recall most of all is the very solid but very damp deep reddish brown brickwork and the very clammy environment.

Yes... some nice passageways from the original lifts... Someone who I know who worked there, said the hidden areas had a distinctive odour about them. [not his actual words! ]

You can see parts of the disused passageways at the bottom of the very little used staircase. Years ago, I was having a nosey there, through a grille at an apparently abandoned passageway and got the fright of my life when a member of staff walked past on the other side of the grille!

ok just watched the news it appears LU don't really care about the fact that local shops will be under serious pressure from this and are likley to close and will encourage more commuters to take the car and knocking down a brilliant peice of architecture and turning it in to this: www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/images/wide/shep-bush-large.jpg

I have to say the TfL building actually looks reasonably good - it has some Holden features as well - high roof, large glass area.

It's a shame, but the current building looks too small to cope with the expected passenger increases, am I right?

I'm glad I got a chance to explore it before its demise - now the only one left is Holland Park!

...and Oxford Circus, Queensway remain and I think Chancery Lane, though it is not used as a tube station.

Is Oxford Circus not a Yerkes era building, Oxblood red etc... There are two exits, one is a Yerkes station and the other a CLR one, both on the opposite corners of Argyll Road. I'm certain. There is a CLR station at Tottenham Court Road too, although somewhat spoiled by an ugly shelter.

I should have said that Holland Park is the only freestanding CLR station building left now - once Shepherd's Bush is gone the rest will all be integrated with other structures.

Why is it necessary to always block off half of the entrance/exit with some grotty newspaper shop. TCR Looks awful, and oxford circus is just too busy!! Please let some one do a Covent Garden on them all. I actually find it interesting that there seems to be more of an emphasis on Yerkes and Oxblood stations and their preservation than the older clr stations. I could be completely wrong but that is the perception i had

Please stop whining, the stations were never ment to be free standing, they were designed so buildings could be placed on top from day one, they were also designed so that any extra space could be used for commercial purposes. Space that isn't needed should be used up!
Also, the newsagents at Oxford Circus may be ditched when (if?) the station gets step-free access, it seems the best place to put a lift down to the ticket hall.

Historically it's a sad day when stations are modernized, but to say all modernizations are eyesores is wrong. Some modernizations are very good and I would like to see some more.
