I have a good knowledge of timetables, operations, unusual moves etc but have often wanted to know more about duties. For example, do drivers based at White City and Leytonstone get a wider variety of routes, because all scheduled trains pass these points? Conversely, do drivers based at Loughton for example get few opportunities to go to Ealing / Hainault, because outside the peaks trains passing Loughton only go to Northolt / Rusilip. And if you are a Loughton driver, would you ever get a turn where you had to stable a train in White City depot for example?

Don't know if it's changed with the revised services, but in the days of 62TS if a Ruislip crew had to go round the Hainault loop, they reqiured a pilot man.

That's interesting - I always thought that a driver on a particular line would be road trained over the whole line, even if he/she visited certain sections rarely.

All Central line drivers at all depots work every section of the line. Drivers at Leytonstone also work the Waterloo & City line.

I thought that was the case, but for that to happen then presumably there must be a fair bit of travelling "on the cushions," especially at weekends. In the normal course of events, a Loughton based driver would have to start / finish at Leytonstone if he/she was to work an Ealing / Hainault service.
