Last night, arriving into Redbridge (outer-rail) I noticed a strange figure for only a few seconds, standing on the platform. This figure seemed to have a pointed hat (not a witch) When I opened the doors, I saw two large orbs float up towards the tunnel ceiling and vanish into thin air. I got out my cab, looked down the platform, but couldn't see anyone.
Having worked on the Underground for over 40 years - this is the first time I've seen something spooky. I know most underground stations have ghost - It makes you wonder.

Spooooky!
Don't you just love google ads. The current one above this thread as I write is for ghost-mart.com - serious gear for serious ghost hunters! Maybe you should buy a plasma gun for your next trip?
Sorry for being a cynic, but were the "ghost" and "orbs" viewed through glass by any chance? Maybe they could have been a reflection or refraction of light in the window?

Something similar appears on the V125 DVD of the Picccadilly line approaching Heathrow.

I saw the two orbs from the platform as I was looking out of my cab, no reflection was involved. Maybe the pointed hat was a hood? After, I looked down the platform to see if there was anyone there.

I know most underground stations have ghost - It makes you wonder. My former headteacher believed in ghosts... He gave lectures on them to raise funds for the school, and told stories of individual lights coming on and off by themselves. But I'm not convinced...! Maybe it was an illusion. I was at Tufnell Park station a few months ago, and saw what looked like a headless man sitting on a bench at the far end of the platform. I looked and looked and couldn't find a logical explanation. It was just me and him, and eventually he moved and suddenly I realsed he was sleeping in a very odd position! But for a few moments, it did make me think ;D

I find Ghost sightings interesting. I’ll stick my neck out and say that Ghosts don’t exist but strange things do appear to happen at certain locations. However, these are probably down to environmental factors such as acoustics, temperature, physical layout, lighting etc… Current theories blame infrasound for initiating weird and uncomfortable feelings. As most of the tube network is a series of long resonant pipes running tunnels there must be lots of infrasound which would explain most of the ghost ‘sightings’. In theory, carpeting all the tunnels from floor to ceiling would fix most of the problem. I have seen a very creepy stairwell in an old theatre be transformed to a ‘normal’ space by adding a carpet, curtains and coat of paint. Seems weird but it worked. Probably deadened the acoustic resonance that was excited by traffic on the road outside.
It would be an interesting experiment to build a ‘haunted’ room and see if it is possible to get a ghost sighting from an unwitting volunteer!

Not seen or heard anything myself... but a colleague stopped on the eastbound road at the old British Museum station, swears he saw something like an apparition walking where the platform used to be...

It does seem to be those who want to see a ghost are the people who see ghosts! Whilst the cynics like myself never see ghosts.

A little off topic, does anyone remember a movie "Last Train To Redbridge" I think that was the title. I recall seeing it maybe in the early sixties.

Nah, that's a fake. What are they meant to be taking a picture of anyway, and if they saw that and decided to take a picture of it, why is the guy picture smiling, as its the last thing I'd be doing! Very much agree stephenk. However, I don't agree that there are or aren't ghosts, and until someone can prove it, one way or the other, I'll keep that opinion.

This is a true story: Back in the 70's I was driving my car through a country lane on the outskirts of Epping. It was about 8am, it was day light, and had a clear vision of the road ahead. Suddenly, I noticed this old Gentleman riding a push-bike in front of me. As I overtook him, I looked in my mirror and noticed he had vanished. I slowed down, thinking he may have fallen off his bike, but still there was no sign of him. A few years later, I mentioned this to a group of elderly Gentleman who often used this part of Epping for shooting game, etc. They replied: 'He got run over by a lorry many years ago and often people have seen him on his bike - the exact place where he died.

Maybe you should buy a plasma gun for your next trip? That's something out of Star Trek isn't it?
