It looks like they are the join between photos both times Oracle. You can see the colour depth difference in the second one and track being of a different colour and blurred by the second picture.
Nice idea though!

Ha! Spot on but interesting n'est-ca pas?
Many years ago I had to check my glasses (and the photo print I took) when I saw a six-car Bakerloo train at Wembley Park. I have a feeling that one unit was in train red and the other in bus red but I gave my photos away to LURS.

Did you see the "long train" in the other photo? Count the number of cars!
I seem to recall and in fact have no proven myself correct that the 1940 EE/Lansing-built SR Waterloo & City trains had individual cars that could run on their own, and one was actually exhibited at Waterloo suburban platforms years ago.

W&C 1940 cars.
The idea behind the cars opperating singularly was a continuation of the previous practice. In 1899 Dick Kerr provided some single cars for opperation during the slack periods. The 1940 order of replacement cars had all the DM's double ended, marshaling 3 trailers between them. They could, and did, run on their own, but I'm not sure how long this practice continued. Certainly in NSE days it didnt happen.

Is it possible that single-car configuration cars were double-ended?

Nearly all 'Single Cars' would have driving positions at each end. One exception was the single carriage used on the Brill Branch where the steam engine 'ran round' at each end!
The Met Rly had two single ended compartment cars used on the Edgware Road to Olympia, Ricky to Watford and, later, the Stanmore lines.

If anyone picked up thelondonpaper on Tuesday, there was an ad, with an aerial photo of Waterloo NR, with 8 and 12-car 95/96TS photoshopped onto the tracks!

When I first saw that picture (it's been in there quite a few times of late), it had me quite confused as I couldn't place a tube station with that many platforms!
I'm fairly sure it's London Bridge though and not Waterloo as I was able to pick out various structures that matched up, though they've not only photoshopped the tube trains in (quite well, IMHO, aside from a shadow on one platform edge), but they've duplicated several platforms too, which didn't help my trying to place it either. It's easy to spot once you realise that they've just duplicated one of the terminal sheds and one of the through viaducts (abet, slightly rotated - but you can see it's the same one).

Sorry - related to that poster. It's for Capital radio (I think) and I'm sure the trains spell some message or other. Do they?
