Rather then bump TOK's thread on this subject (which is currently residing on the last page of the subboard ) I thought I'd post a reply as a new thread. Debden was apparently rebuilt as a junction for the branch; I remember being told something about a concrete box being built near the sidings (?). Today, building the branch would make little sense, as pointed out the M11 stands in the way and one stop would not bring in enough traffic to justify all the additional works. However at the time things would have been different. One could speculate that Abridge would have become the main line terminus, with Debden - Ongar opperated as a 2 or 3 train shuttle. This would have had the advantage of freeing up a number of trains to opperate the main central line more intensely, and provided the sparsely populated section from Debden - Ongar with a level of service more fitting at the time. I'm curious as to whether proposed track diagrams exist, or indeed any material relating to the scheme. There must be something somewhere if Debden was passivly rebuilt to accomodate it?
