On a 1992, while the train is in ATO (stowed) will turning the deadman make any difference (emergency brake application, that sort of thing) while the train is moving? Seems like a silly question but I was just wondering.

yeah, when in Auto, if you knock it out of stow, you'll get an Emergency Brake App...

I know that, but can you twist the deadman while it's stowed, or will any movement at all on the CTBC put the anchors on?

Nope, can't be rotated while stowed... Well, I've not tried it!

yeah, when in Auto, if you knock it out of stow, you'll get an Emergency Brake App... You don't! You get a full service brake application... you will actually get a stronger brake application if you whack the emergency brake button! Sam

That is interesting........I know that most Central T/Ops prefer to use the handle in an emergency - that's why when coming into a station they sit there leaning their arm on the armrest - it's nothing to do with taking it easy!! It's because their arm is in a good place to knock the handle out should anything happen.
Also, I've heard that the Emergency Stop Button can be a real git to reset, another reason T/Ops prefer the handle.

But, that button can be a right sod to de-activate, a sort of push-twist affair, plus the finger grips aren't adequate enough for my stubby fingers! So, thats why I use then handle!
