I had a conversation with one of my colleagues recently where he asked me how the 92's receive the ATO data.
I wasnt sure if it was the same as the vic where the codes are fed to the train via electrical impulses from the track or if if the 92 picks them up via radio transmissions.
We thought that if the 92 receives the data via electrical impulses, would it be possible to reprogram the train eqiupment so it could run on the vic?
I know it may sound silly, but i'm curious to find out if this is possible.

On plain line the signalling codes for the current block section and the next block section are injected into the rails themselves; jointless track circuits are used throughout with a specific frequency pattern inherent in code transmission.
At points and crossovers, standard blockjointed track circuits have to be used, so the codes are instead transmitted via heavy duty cabling anchored to the sides of the rails. In both cases the train picks up the codes from the rails via an aerial on the front of the train.

I see. I must admit, I thought that the codes were picked up through the rails. As a result, I thought that it would be technically possible to reprogram the systems onboard a 92 to allow it to run on the vic.

fx: stampede of T/Ops and AETs coming to poke holesMethinks you're confusing ATO with ATP here. Central Line ATO Data is uploaded via the PAC. The ATP Code goes through the raisl as you might expect.

Blaaaargh. You are of course correct; I was referring to the ATP codes. The letters O and P are next to each other on the keyboard anyway

I understand now. I knew some of the aspects of the central lines ATO system but the only thing I wasnt sure of was the method used to transmit the ATO info to the train.
Just a thought, the PAC, is it the same concept as the one used on the jubilee?
