If a controlled-site station on the Central Line were to be closed for refurbishment, how would the station skip mechanism be put into place? BAET has posted some background info on the station skip mechanism elsewhere: As I remember it the problem was more to do with ATO data uploads. Normally a train at NHG2 (EB) will recieve route/run data for NHG2 - QUE2, QUE2-LAG2 and LAG2-MAA2. (These are all the Platform ATO Communicator aka PAC ID's). Upon arrival at Queensway it would (if the station was open) get ATO data for QUE2-LAG2, LAG2-MAA2 and MAA2-BOS2. As Queensway is closed (and the PAC fuses removed so the train can't recieve the data there) the train has got to drive to Lancaster Gate on the NHG info. Should Lancaster Gate be closed it can then drive on the NHG data as far as Marble Arch, at which point it must stop and communicate with the PAC to be able to continue in ATO. This is why ATO data modifications were so much fun (not!); you had to modify at least three PACs for just one line of code in a run file. Given that removing the PAC fuses at a controlled station (such as Newbury Park) sounds rather untenable and possibly illegal, how would station skipping and PAC communication be finagled if a controlled site were to be skipped?

The train would go in CM until the train picks up a PAC.

But what about the PAC at the controlled site?

What about it? If the fuses are removed, it doesn't transmit any data. It can be worked around.
I've been to PAC faults at Marble Arch where they managed to avoid any problems, likewise Queensway was a controlled site and there were no problems with ATO data.

But do these PAC faults prevent the use of any points or crossovers? Suppose Marble Arch is closed and the PAC fuses removed. An incoming train will come in to the station on ATO, having gotten the ATO map data from the previous PAC, and then do what? Will it just stop, forcing the driver to go into CM?

No, they don't stop use of any points. Just because the train has been given the route/run data doesn't mean it is forced to use it.

Ah, interesting. This is something I didn't know about the CL ATO - I was under the impression that after a PAC download the train simply went and used the data to move itself in ATO.
So when skipping stations that are controlled sites, the procedure is the exact same as I quoted above?

Are there any stations on the Central that can be non-stopped at linespeed?

Are there any stations on the Central that can be non-stopped at linespeed? I wondered about that as well. I passed St. Pauls yesterday which was closed again as it has been the past few Sundays but the work is not on the platforms but in other parts of the station. It seems to me the train could just pass at normal speed through the station without it being unsafe for the people working there. Nonetheless it passes the completely deserted platforms at 5MPH.

No is the simple answer.
Or at least not in ATO.

On a related tangent, will the Jubilee Line ATP have full overlaps on the station starters, thus allowing the ATO to non-stop the PED-equipped stations at linespeed?
