after changing ends at West Ruislip, I pours meself a cup of rosy-lee from the flask, and await the stick. Get the green, so closes the doors and presses those all too familliar buttons. Uneventful journey, until Northolt that is. I'm busy making an announcement when we arrive at Northolt, when SPLAT! Right across my window. Train stops in the platform, so I opens the doors, get out of the cab and have a butchers at the front. On the coupler is the remains of some prepacked pasta dish. LASAGNE. Obviously, a BOGOF reject or someone didnt fancy that for supper. The windsceen wash isn't any use, so I end up running round with a cab covered in pasta. I would have called the old man, but I think that would have generated a few giggles....
I'm just glad it wasnt the usual road cone or car tyre.

Windscreen wash? The luxury! We have to make do with a cup of hot water from the next tea point.

And if the tea machines broken??? Should do what NR stations do - chain a bucket of water to a post at t' end of platform, with a broom in it.

Actually, that's a decent question - do stations have cleaning supplies readily available to allow someone to quickly clean up after a mess, be it on the station or on the train?

I would guess so. Coming through TCR today, the PA was booming away asking for a member of the cleaning team to go to the eastbound platform for a "code 4", which was then corrected to a "code 6" and then back to a "code 4".

Code 6? ;D ;D ;D Yes larger stations will have at least one cleaner on for most of the day, the quieter stations will only have a cleaner after each peak, with the said cleaner covering several stations in a shift. Whilst all stations have a store cupboard somewhere, the materials are supplied by the contractors - so only their staff are allowed to access and use it. So it's either lob a cup of water at it, or ask for a fitter at the next available 'call point' - on the District anyway. I have seen fitters with a rag and a bottle of window cleaner - so they can be called upon

Code 4? Code 6? ;D ;D ;D Presumably this to avoid announcing to the passengers that someone has vomited/taken a dump/something else unpleasant. I didn't know that. I'll be calling on their services much more often in future! If the call point men spend half their day washing windscreens than maybe Metronet will get the message that we need windscreen washers on the trains.
