At the request of one of our members, I've added this board specifically aimed for questions on the topic of the Central Line.
We have a good number of 'Central Specialists' amongst our members who should be able to answer whatever questions you may wish to raise!

So shouldn't we have a board for each line then? (Plus each type of rolling stock including engineer's vehicles, etc etc) ;D I agree. Kind of spits in the eye of us "big railway" people. Months of visiting here, secretly forging ahead with our battle to prove we are a better railway than those using small trains (or big trains with small wheels) and now you include another dedicated board for one of these railways - one that doesn't even use drivers to drive its trains! Next you'll really upset us and bring in a "Coffee" board, or "Assorted Soft Drinks" board and slowly squeeze us tea-drinking railwaymen (and women, somewhere) away ;D Maybe if we call a cease-fire on our battle, and behave for a few weeks, we'll see a "Real Railway Signallers" board? ;D

;D Now, why did I suspect the creation of this board would open up a can of worms........ IF there's a demand (and someone with a pretty comprehensive knowledge of the various lines is able and willing to field the questions) I we will provide the appropriate area! The member who requested this board has, it's fair to say, a pretty comprehensive knowledge of the workings, operations and practices of the Central, and he'd better get his rear over here pretty pronto and give some answers or this area *might* disappear as quickly as it appeared! Boards for Coffe and Assorted Soft Drinks? Now you're just being silly!! ;D

Firstly, how do you know I'm bored. Secondly, how do you know I'm at work. I suppose if you get the second one correct, the first is easy ;D
Or there's a camera here somewhere. I always said there was because everytime I go to stand up, the phone rings (I know paranoid as well ;D )

No, seriously, I'm all for it. At least with dedicated boards, we know where everyone is!

we'll see a "Real Railway Signallers" board? Is there another ex BR signalman here then? ;D we know where everyone is! I though that was a constant and that it was only the depth that varied? ;D

we know where everyone is! Wasn't it Spike Milligan who, when asked "what are you doing here?" replied "Well, everybody's got to be somewhere"

OK ok, I'll own up in asking our esteemed leader to 'create' a Forum specificaly for the Central Line, as an afterthought I should have said 'one for each line' but that's been done now so I won't ask him.
As the Central is the 'odd man out' with regard to Stock, Signaling etc. questions specific to the Line can be thrashed out here in a most Gentlmanly sort of manner without it getting lost amongst some of the 'conventional' lines.
I will endeavour to answer as many questions as I can and those I can't I'm sure someone else will.
There you go DD, rear over here as requested buy you a pint on Moday.

OK, here's one to get things rolling.
Why is it called "the Central Line"?

Because it was originally incorporated and built as the Central London Railway, running along the spinal route of Shepherds Bush Road, Notting Hill Gate, Queens Road, Oxford Street and New Oxford Street - an almost perfectly straight route that guaranteed high speeds and straight platforms.

So what happened at Bank then... ;D ;D ;D was that section planned on a Friday afternoon after a long liquid lunch Seriously though (only for a moment ), why are the Central Line platforms at Bank curved and why if there was a need to insert such a curve (e.g. to negotiate around deep piled foundations). Was it not possible to locate the platforms on a straighter stretch on line?

Apparently at one point the curves that are negotiated between St Paul’s and Bank curve to avoid the vaults of the Bank of England!

But that would mean you would be banned from mentioning tea on any other board.... With dedicated boards, isn't it going to be very hard to police all posts, and make sure none mention something belonging to another board. Bang goes all these threads about favourite stock, station or line. Still I will say something for these extra boards. At least I have a place to vent my grumpiness now over in the Rant board. Been there a lot just lately, nodding my head silently to the views being aired there ;D

Oh why not have boards for the New York Subway and Moscow metro and maybe the Berlin U-Bahn while we are at it? But not T&W Metro? Q8 I'm appalled, I thought your were patriotic towards your adopted country. ;D Of course we should also have boards for the Glasgow Subway, Midland Metro, Manchester Metrolink, Croydon Tramlink and Sheffield Supertram.

Oh why not have boards for the New York Subway and Moscow metro and maybe the Berlin U-Bahn while we are at it? I haven't gone quite that specific, but you'll find that there is now an 'International Matters' board that I hope will satisfy the justifiable need now for somewhere to talk about such things. I hadn't seen this post from Q8 when it was created, but it was inspired by a PM from our esteemed colleague Igelkotten. I hope this will suffice, but if any of the 'Staff' want to add new categories to that area of a more specific area then please do so. But, as to the reason for this particular board, can I refer you all to the little introductory paragraph on the forum's home page - I think that spells out why it was created added at 16:44 - Well, it did! But now that we've gone the whole hog and created a seperate board for each line, that's been overtaken by events!
