Often wondered why this train arrives late at Baker Street and now I know I plead insanity brought about by a combination of lots of staiton names, and the horror of imagining myself awake at that time in the morning!

Central: M-Sa: 01:20 Epping -> Loughton a. 01:29 Sun: 00:26 Epping -> Loughton a. 00:35
District: M-Sa: 00:07 Richmond -> Upminster a. 01:32 Sun: 23:29 Richmond -> Upminster a. 00:55
East London: M-Sa: 01:10 Canda Water -> NXG a. 01:16 Sun: 00:30 Canda Water -> NX a. 00:37
H&C and Circle: M-Sa: 00:28 W'chappel -> H'smith a. 01:03 Sun: 00:22 Aldgate -> H'smith (via inner rail) a. 00:57
Last complete inner rail: M-Sa: 23:37 Tower H -> Tower H a. 00:04 Sun: 23:13 Tower H -> Tower H a. 00:07
Last complete outer rail: M-Sa: 23:08 Tower H -> Tower H a. 00:06 Sun: 22:53 Tower H -> Tower H. a. 23:48
Jubilee: M-Sa: 00:12 Stanmore -> Stratford a. 01:13 Sun: 23:31 Straford -> Stanmore: a. 00:34
Met: M-Sa: 00:43 Baker St -> Uxbridge a. 01:22 (all stations) Sun: 00:29 Baker St -> Uxbridge a. 00:59 (all stations)
Northern: M-Sa: 00:32 Kennington -> Edgware via CX a. 01:13 Sun: 23:07 Morden -> High Barnet via Bank a. 00:22
Picadilly: M-Sa: 23:57 Cockfosters -> Heathrow 123 a. 01:18 Sun: 23:30 Heathrow 123 -> Cockfosters a. 00:53
Victoria: M-Sa: 00:26 Brixton -> Walthamstow C a. 01:02 Sun: 23:50 Brixton -> Walthamstow C a. 00:25
W&C: M-F: 21:48 Bank -> Waterloo a. 21:52 Sa: 18:38 Bank -> Waterloo a. 18:42
--------------- So the absolute latestt train on the netwok is: Monday-Saturday: 00:07 Richmond -> Upminster a. 01:32 (District)
Sunday: Sun: 00:29 Baker St -> Uxbridge a. 00:59 (Met, all stations)
On a weekday you can get to Upmister at 01:32 and then start the next morning at Hammersmith at 04:40. The journey planner says this journey can be done in 1 hour and 5 minutes (N27 bus to Caxton Rd, Shepherd's Bush Green, then busses 72 or 220), arriving at 02:45. So you'd only need to kill 1 hour and 55 minutes before starting again the next day.

Does anybody actually use these services? Or are LU obliged to operate them, or do they just get stock to where they want them to be?

Some peoples works during the night or very late in the evening and on friday and saturdays evenings you always have some peoples taking the tube back from their evening out.

The first trains on Saturday and Sunday mornings are often quite busy with clubbers travelling home. I've often had to stand on the first train of the morning! There are also quite a few people travelling to work on the tube in the very early hours, as well as people travelling to airports, particularly Heathrow.

Yes, when I lived in the suburbs one of the great things was to go to town on a Saturday night (for whatever) and know that however late you were, you could still get back to Oakwood!
No need for a car (tho I had one), no problems

I've actually got a 'Local Road & Rail Timetable' for Romford, Brentwood, Grays, Tilbury and District from 14th May 1958. It shows the very train Q8 mentions, albeit slightly earlier. It shows the times as Upm 0341, Hornchurch 0347 Dag East 0354, Dag Hthwy 0357, Becontree 0401, Upney 0405, Barking 0408, East Ham 0413, Upton Park 0417, Plaistow 0420, Bromley 0425 and underneath says 'Steam train to Fenchurch St.' ;D

Nah - bit before my time - but I'm sure Dave knows more about that era than me ;D ;D I will admit to being old enough to have been around on the date of the timetable mentioned by solidbond, however, having been raised in West London, I deny all knowledge of the service referred to!
