Americanised and also employing the skills of expensive designers. That's what you get for your money.
Smart suits, waistcoats, gold pocket-watches and the like are no longer considered "approachable" attire for staff. We have to look like mickey mouse if we want to be noticed and have people approach us.
We went from looking half-professional, to looking like postmen, to looking like an employee of a large supermarket chain. What next? No doubt the yellow and red tones of a certain fast food chain. Some of the staff we have would certainly fit the criteria ;D

In another thread:
What are other peoples views? Personally I think the 1990's uniform was the best transport uniform ever designed. Does anyone have pics from the official leaflet when it was launched?

Why is it that modern tube staff uniforms make people look like a cross between ice-cream sellers and lollipop men? Surely a smarter get-up could be devised? Many of us feel the new stuff is smart. It's all about taste, and changing times. I think the latest issue with fleeces and polo shirts for drivers is the best ever, I have never been a fan of shirts and ties anyway, the polo shirts are also more practical for sitting in a stuffy cab.

The latest issue in dark blue is IMHO quite good, certainly better than the bright blue.
Drivers have a lot of choice with shirts, jackets, waistcoats, fleeces, parkas etc. so really you look as smart as you want to. Personally I usually wear the suit-type jacket, proper shirt and tie - although that isn't to most drivers taste I find it quite comfortable.
I'm not a fan of the polo shirt and fleece - too casual.

A shirt and tie is the best mate. It gives you a look of 'authority' and strangely the public seem to respect a person wearing same more rather than if you were dressed as someone selling programms to a gymkhana.

Those were originally posted by me. I took all apart from the driver one down from my photobucket account as I was running out of space, if anyone really wants to see the others I have the photo's on my PC and can email them.

Blame it all on Richard Bowker ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D It was he who introduced the idea of 'suit but no tie' when he got to be in charge of the SRA. Now it seems even the new Conservative leader thinks it's the 'thing to do' So, like it or not, no tie is here to stay (at last). But: shirt vs polo shirt - that's a different matter, and one I'm staying out of
