to ask about the looming tube strike? Yes, but please note that I have not started this thread to argue over whether it should or shouldn't go ahead, or to make un-needed remarks about the staff and I request that this thread please be locked and deleted if it gets out of hand. Can someone please explain to me what this tube strike is about? I have read numerous articles about it, but I can still only see two main priorities. The first seems to be safety. From watching last weeks episode of the tube, I can see you guys up the eastern end of the lines have a rough time with things being thrown on the tracks, trespassers and even GUNS!! Am I on the right line with this one, or are there other safety related problems? Secondly, it seems to be about staff cuts. Now I heard that, Metronet in particular, were planning on cutting the number of engineering staff, but also, another priority seems to be that the general number of staff, from CSA's to engineers, are being cut because LU feel they are not needed. Again, can anyone clear up why staff numbers seem to be a concern, as, from what I've seen, LU seem pretty keen to hire! Cheers, David

David:
If you have been following the 'Bob Crow' thread on this board, you will have as much information as is ever likely to be posted on this forum.
If there ARE any members who have inside information (and I certainly haven't!) they will almost certainly not be prepared to make anything further public. Things are just too sensitive - on both sides.
You can always do a Google search if you want more background general.

The very, very odd thing about this strike is it affects me in absolutely no way at all, highly unusual. I'm getting a lift to The Valley to see West Ham away to Charlton (how do you see this one going 'rpi', I fancy your lot to break your luckless run ), then the delights of South Eastern Trains to Hastings. So for once, Mr. Crow can do what the hell he likes! Sorry, after many years of being affected by strikes designed to cause maximum disruption I'm amazed my plans aren't being bokked for once!

The planned strike is station staff only, and is in relation to LUL implementing an agreement made with RMT last year.

Ah, I guess irony is lost on you... FWIW I think the actions being taken by the station staff are correct, whilst not knowing all the ins-and-outs of the rostering dispute a reduction in any visible staff in the ticket office isn't desired. I know it's not the drivers going out, but no station staff = no service and the same visible effect on the punter. You're all going to cop it regardless, but do give me some credit. Is your neck able to auto-wind or would you like me to do it for you?
