What do people think the tube'll be like in 30yrs time?? Still around?
Any new lines gonna be built in the future possibly? (If the Govt. give LU the money!)

Have a look at This prediction for 2016 from TfL (PDF). compare This 1994 predictionpThen there are things like the southbank tramline that are not shown. Add another 10 years onto that and the chances are some gaps will have been filled. Looking at the 2016 map (with no knoweldge of the actual geograph), perhaps: * Peckham bus station - Peckham Rye - Crystal Palace * New Cross - Lewisham - Beckenham Junction * Brixton - Streatham * New Cross - Grenwich Add in more trams and shake well

Blasphemy! The Tube will exist until the end of time! Even the thought of.... As for new lines, we know East London Line extension's happening, the Met will hopefully be diverted to Watford Junction from Watford (Met) and there're rumours the Bakerloo may return to Watford Junction (only rumours mind, based on the presumption that Ken will get Silverlink). As for the next new line, a line running between Chelsea and Hackney has been suggested (with branches outside these areas presumably) but first all the feasibility studies and estimated traffic level studies etc. have to be done to prove it's worth it. If you know the story of the Victoria line, then you'll know it'll be a while before construction of a new line begins. As to its name? Hmm....interesting, although IMO the 'Memorial Line' after 7/7 might be nice, and is short too, but who knows? Hope that helps

Take a look back at the last 30 years. the Jubilee line and it,s extensions, the Picc to Heathrow, and a little before that the Vic, and any I might have missed. LU seem to keep building or extending which can't be bad.......unless they go to far and London drops right in on the Tube Would be nice if they left some lines were the trains could actually be driven In Toronto they tend to go the streetcar (trams) route, which I feel adds to congestion on the surface Would be nice to revisit this thread in 30 years and see just what was done ;D

It would be nice if the Heathrow Express could be extended to go somewhere useful at the London end, instead of ending in "a certain space of ground adjoining the Basic of the Paddington Canal in the Parish of Paddington" (to quote the GWR's 1837 Act).
And, if we are daydreaming, it would be good to somehow reverse the bad policy decisions of the 1930s whereby short-distance trains were extended to serve long distances. It is no fun using the Picc to get to Heathrow, and I imagine it must be purgatory to get to Epping by Central: that distance on the nasty sideways seats with automated announcements at each stop. Paris does it much better with the Metro for short distances and the RER for outer suburbs. But it would cost too much to do something similar in London now.

I've not been out as far as Epping, but back in August I did do a Heathrow - Holborn - Debden journey (I had to change trains at Leytonstone as well). It was late at night, I was knackered after five days in youth hostell accomodation followed by five hours in Frankfurt airport (I missed my flight to Bristol : , so I'd have preferred mainline or at least A stock seats and I was ready to throttle the automated anouncer by the time I got to Debden!
