Ugh!!! I had one snap on me in June! Up at Hainault, p2, waiting to return to towards the city. Puts me key in and tries a little to hard to turn - SNAP!!! I call the old man on the radio and tell him: Err, Gov, I've gotta slight problem... No, I didn't do it deliberately! [but I did get out of a rather shyte turn tho] I did have a spare, and as to why he didnt re-route me via Chiggy, is beyond me, but alas, I won that battle as the lock was faulty, not my key.

I THINK but I am not sure that it refers to the makers. But TOK's suggestions make more sense.

As far as I'm aware the first use of them was on 73 stock (assuming it's the same key) when their only use was to release the Passenger Emergency Alarm and the emergency button on the offside desk.
The reverser was operated by a reverser key, the same as on previous stocks.

They were first used on 3904 Craven unit which was experimentally fitted with Westcode brake as a test bed for 73TS,were used to reset PEA's.

I think it's just a code for the lock family - Yale have also produced RKB series Keys which open the padlocks on BR S&T equipment.

Talking of locks and keys we used to have 'S1' keys and a special key for padlocks made by a Swedish firm. (Can't remember the name) Are they still used?

ASSA's? They're still in use (but on the way out). S1's are everywhere still, another Yale product I believe.
