As has been mentioned previously on this forum The A was for Amersham, ie the electrification of the Met line to Amersham, C for Circle and D for District. Thus there was never a B stock in this particular sequence

What about the Bakerloo Line? Or does it only work for SSL's?

There was a B stock, built for the District Electrification - I think it was the early 1900s but someone else probarbly knows more . "Steam to Silver" lists them all! The original District electrification was A stock, of two 7-car experimental trains. The main stock for the 1903 electrification was the B stock. Various other stock followed, and there were assorted reclassifications and amendments, including bringing the Met stock into the scheme after 1933. By 1960, they had got as far as "T". As the new Met stock was for the Amersham electrification, they decided to go back to the beginning and call it "A60" stock. Another batch was later ordered for the Uxbridge trains and was called "A62" stock. Both batches are now just known as "A" stock.
