Revolution Trains has published photos and pricing for their upcoming N scale 1938 stock, which are expected to be delivered early next year. The models will be available in original livery, 1970s bus red with white roundel, and LTM preserved livery with brown roof, at £214.95 for a 4 car set and £174.95 for a 3 car set - enabling full 7 car formations to be run. Island line NSE and heritage livery two car sets will be £139.95. These prices seem very reasonable compared with £399.95 for an EFE motorised OO 4 car set - N scale is rarely half the price of OO! If you have an 00 layout that is large enough you could create an impression of distance by using smaller trains further away from the edge of the layout.

I will have some samples on display at the Rapido Railex show in Maidstone, 27-28th September. The York Road tube diorama will be on show. I will convert a couple of the IoW non-branded heritage sets to represent the ‘35 flat-ended stock. Will be just the job for working under the Cally Road section of Copenhagen Fields.

They look better than the OO gauges versions! Suburb detail.

We had the NSE version on the MRC test tracks at our Copenhagen Fields 40 mini exhibition at the weekend. The original set was running well on Caledonian Road. Here are some close ups. The bogies run with inside bearings and pick ups. The livery application is outstanding and the glazing superb. There are two lengths of coupling available, but for our purposes they could be closer still. It won’t take a great deal of work to convert a set to ‘35 stock, which will then be more appropriate for CF. Maybe even a streamlined set if we get bored? Tim

A 1935 flat front would be very straightforward made easier by the window pillars being part of the glazing strip.

The original set was running well on Caledonian Road. Have you regauged the set, or does it run on 2mmFS track straight from the box?

The Caledonian Road station is nowadays a plain piece of track, so it can take either standard. In fact Stewart Hine’s track through the station is now rather dodgy, so the N gauge wheels help a fair bit: the ‘35 stock will stay at that end.
At York Road it will be strictly 2mm finescale with working crossing / tunnel modelled accurately. For this we will use the new Gate Stock and a refurbished (mechanically) standard stock train (same mechanism).
