Just picked up this 5 hr old posting on EOR FB
DL82 to be Epping Ongar resident.
QUOTE Former London Transport diesel locomotive finds new home on preserved London Underground line! We are delighted to welcome former London Transport Sentinel locomotive DL82 to its new home at the Epping Ongar Railway. Whilst it never worked to Ongar in LT days it is an important representative of London Transport traction from the 1970s so it is appropriate that the privately owned locomotive has found a new home on our former London Underground line. DL82 is one of three locomotives, with Rolls Royce engines, that were acquired by London Transport which were once used at an open cast iron ore mine at Corby in Northamptonshire in 1971. They worked for London Transport at Neasden and Lillie Bridge depots where they replaced the last of the former Great Western pannier steam locomotives. Subject to repairs and appropriate training being completed, the locomotive may make an appearance offering cab rides at our diesel gala from 20 to 22 September. UNQUOTE

Glad to see another part of LT History being preserved to working order. Upon discovering that these Diesel Sentinel Locos used to work at Neasden and Lillie Bridge Depot, I found that there was very little photographic evidence of these workings. Perhaps if anyone has any more photos they could share?

DL83 was also allocated to Ealing Common depot for shunting use.

DL81 was also allocated to Ealing Common depot for shunting use. Would this have been operated by crew from Lillie Bridge.

Saying that I couldn't find any photographs. It took me just a few minutes to find one for each three Sentinels. DL81 was seen here at Acton Works in July 1983 behind Sarah Siddons DL82 was seen here at Neasden Depot paired with Tender DT82 in April 1983. Included in the photo is Brake Van B558 and Sarah Siddons as well as C77 Unit 5724 DL83 was seen here at Lillie Bridge Depot paired with Tender DT83 in August 1971. Brake Van B558 and a hopper wagon can be seen in the background. Not my photographs.

Glad to see another part of LT History being preserved Not to sure what you mean, but anyway DL82 is not new preserved, it has been preserved for years, now merely relocating from one site (Mid Norfolk Railway) to another (Epping Ongar ailway).

As opposed to being kept as a static piece or not being regularly maintained or used. I'm not sure how often the Mid Norfolk Railway used it but judging by the EOR update, DL82 requires some attention.

Would this have been operated by crew from Lillie Bridge. Acton Town (District) depot shunting crews, who also moved trains in Acton Works

Not to sure what you mean, but anyway DL82 is not new preserved, it has been preserved for years, now merely relocating from one site (Mid Norfolk Railway) to another (Epping Ongar ailway). *restored to working condition. As opposed to being kept as a static piece or not being regularly maintained or used. I'm not sure how often the Mid Norfolk Railway used it but judging by the EOR update, DL82 requires some attention. Can not judge DL82 condition from what it has done or not done on it's previous site. Fairly obviously not a lot of work is needed if to get it ready for 2 weeks time. It must be in general working order with nothing significant if they are planning to use it for cab rides, and it'll have to be in working order for training on it (which they mention) before that. One of the reasons a loco like that does not find much use on preserved railways is that w.r.t. train braking it is air brake only and the /vast/ /majority/ of preserved railway have little or no air brake passenger stock. So very limited in what it can do, the occasional cab ride, etc. Or engineering trains - that don't take place on public operating days. What all this comes down to is : such machines have limited use exactly because they have limited usability => in turn observers never find them working. The same does apply to EOR - having myself already made this enquiry - DL82 is air only, and EOR have no air brake stock for it to work. Before anyone mentions the 3H DEMU, that is out of use, under overhaul, and, if I understood it right, one or more of the cars is not on site. So in real terms, don't seriously expect DL82 to do much more on EOR than it has done on MNR - or most other places with similar locos. (I not sure of state of whatever LU stock they have on site is.) Take DL83. Even on a railway that does have air brake passenger stock - Nene Valley with it's contintental cars, you don't find DL83 works that much. Not sure it has been advertised to work at any recent NVR gala; ISTR past years it has shuttled Wansford Yarwell but not done so for a while.

Air brake only instead of vacuum brake, right?

I'm not sure a Sentinel diesel shunter is exactly 'front of house' anyway. Certainly not on passenger turns!
