The discussion about stock turning moves and test train crews got me thinking about how things have changed. At Hainault we had a test train crew for the ATO trains on the loop, even though they were one man trains the test train crew was a driver and guard, don’t think that’d happen these days.At Golders Green the driver was banned from driving passenger trains as he had a heart condition, these days he would be either redeployed or medically retired.

At Golders Green the driver was banned from driving passenger trains as he had a heart condition, these days he would be either redeployed or medically retired. Things are better these days, contact lenses are now permitted, some heart surgery is also allowed. I was offered a way back onto the trains after my stent fitting but this would’ve been many months of recuperation and tests etc and I’d already put in my retirement paperwork.
