It seems the 1938 stock were withdrawn from the Heathrow extension shortly before the opening of the final station, Heathrow Central, in order not to have 'old' red trains seen in the new platforms. The 1959 stock escaped attention because they were silver.
This is what I was remembering, from the discussions all those years ago.
I'm hoping the Heathrow Loop trip takes place.
Not so much a 'how things were', but a 'how it nearly was' event.

I think that the 4TC is elsewhere in the country and being used as a mainline railway set of carriages connected to diesel locomotives and maybe even working in multiple with them. It helps that the passenger doors on this trainset have been equipped for central locking, which greatly increases the attractiveness of this trainset to railway operators whose use heritage 'slam door' rolling stock.

Yes but the 4TC might have only stayed at Ruislip for a short while before being sent somewhere else.
Because it would have constituted an unusual train movement (rule 7.1) it would not have been allowed to be mentioned here in advance and possibly no-one would have even mentioned it afterwards.

I think it's fairly safe to say that had the 4TC gone somewhere else, it would have been reported here.

Well Sarah Siddons and the 4TC were supposed to be going somewhere next week - on a private tour. But they cannot now do this as Sarah is unwell - she has axle bearing issues.
The 1938 Heritage train will stand-in for her.
