Last few days the Northern Line is showing minor delays all day due to a shortage of trains. Does anyone know what the issue is please.

Shoebeams I think.

Do we have an idea of when this is going to be fixed? It's beginning to get very unpleasant in the rush hour.

A shortage of parts for the damaged shoebeams is preventing trains from entering service. Let's just hope this dosen't get worse.

Oh dear! It seems the train shortage that blighted the Central Line earlier this year is now spreading to the Northern Line! Just as TFL feared!

How are the shoe beams becoming damaged, is it problems with the track or something else.

Oh dear! It seems the train shortage that blighted the Central Line earlier this year is now spreading to the Northern Line! Hopefully this is easier to fix than the central line shortage. The central line has had loads of “motor flashover”. This can only be repaired by replacing the motors. I’d hope cracked shoebeams are relatively easier to repair?

Can they not temporarily sacrifice one train and use its shoebeams to keep the others going?

Can they not temporarily sacrifice one train and use its shoebeams to keep the others going? That might depend on what the specific issue with the shoebeam is and how interchangeable shoebeams are between different parts of the car - looking at photos it appears that the front and rear shoebeams on the leading car are not identical, so there are potentially up to four different designs on a single car (I have no idea if this is the case). If the damage is always to the same beam then a single train isn't that useful as a donor.

Could they borrow some shoebeams from Jubilee line trains?

Are they sure it’s not a problem with a conductor rail ? Back in the 70s the Central was suspended for a couple of hours for all stock to be checked for broken pos shoebeams(we found loads) turned out to be a displaced pos rail at Liverpool St.

Could they borrow some shoebeams from Jubilee line trains? That would depend on the availability of spares for the Jubilee line, and the compatibility between the fleets. It seems likely to me that if they are compatible then the same problems with availability of parts will impact both fleets. There is no benefit in fixing the problem on the Northern line by moving the problem to a different line.

They look similar to JL but are not interchangeable as I recall. And I'm sure those managing the situation have thought to move parts around to minimise the number of stopped trains.

It’s been done for years, when I was at Stonebridge Pk in the 90s had a train with bad Dutch graffiti on the windows, three of us drove round the North Circular to Northumberland Pk and requisitioned some windows out of their stores as there were none in our stores.Presume when we had a delivery Stone bridge had to send some back.

Wow, erm, I suppose its the correct corporate way of doing things but to my eyes the reply seemed somewhat wordy and in the 'lets blind people with science' category.
Maybe its not them but me?

Very cryptic and slightly unexpected that it infers a fault with the Train kit requiring redesign ( not a trackside problem which was overstressing and breaking the train kit)

Could they borrow some shoebeams from Jubilee line trains? You must be joking right? The Jubilee already has a chronic shortage of trains (cracks). Waiting 12 minutes for a train on a Saturday during the day and advertising it as a good service is a joke. Every time I attempt to get a train it's always a 5 minute + wait, and that includes peak times Mon-Fri.

Some of the defective Jubilee trains will not be using their shoebeams, so could loan them if they fit.

t697 commented above that the shoebeams are not interchangeable between 1995 and 1996 stocks.
