They were indeed. This is R49 car 23231 which was delivered to the Festival of Britain site on the South Bank 4th March 1951 and was on show there until the September when the exhibition closed. The car went back to Metro-Cammell and was finished and delivered to LT on 28th May 1952. It entered service on 20th September 1952.

I guessed that my old friend TP would know, and I believe that he has mentioned this before. In the same collection is a photo of the "Silver Lady" unpainted, RM 664, WLT 664, that I remember in 1964 on the 285 at Feltham.

Sorry to bump this thread, but is this car still in existance; the R stock story says it was to be preserved by the Passmore Edwards Museum. If it did still exist then a 3 car train of R stock could be formed

Sadly, there are only 3 R stock DMs left- 2 R47 and 1 R38!

It was repainted red in August 1965. Sunstar did a 1:24 scale model of it on route 285 to Wimbledon (the pre-production one said 127 Victoria).

No comment about what Wikipedia says!
However, 21147 (R49) was seen in a yard next to the main line at West Drayton some months ago. Does anyone know if it is still there?
