The TfL status update for this weekend includes "Sunday 24 March, between 1000 and 1800, no service between Plaistow and Barking." There are no associated closures on the District line noted, and while LO is closed Barking-Barking Riverside that's only until 1430 and obviously that doesn't normally have any impact on the H&C. So I'm curious what work is being done that necessitates this closure?

Axle counter maintenance in Barking sidings. H&C trains therefore can’t reverse in there.

Didn’t H&C service used to reverse in a bay road at Barking Station?

That was changed from WTT30 8 December 2013, all off-peak trains scheduled to reverse at Barking will do so via the sidings.

10min service, single platform, train must be out in 7min. Reversing via siding with one additional train allows longer layovers.

Is that different for the District reversers in the bay road?

I would presume the District reverses there are quicker and aren't used for scheduled breaks for drivers?

Only a 20min off-peak District service to Barking bay, allowing longer layover and crew reliefs.

So that will change when the full SSR timetable for resignalling finally arrives with Tower Hill reversers extended to Barking, based on 8tph interworked services.

Was on a C2C train from West Ham to Barking this afternoon.
The announcement as we approached Barking was "change here for District & Jubilee lines".

The arrival of the extension of Tower Hill Reversers to Barking may not happen things to do with planed future services do not always come to always get done.
