I have not been up to "The Smoke" for some time but was surprised to find a Wimbledon train at Temple at 2.30pm on a Saturday. I thought that they all ran to/from Edgeware Road.

No, there are plenty that run via Victoria.
It's very common that I have to skip one whilst waiting to go to Hammersmith.

For many years the weekend service has been every 10min from Edgware Road and 10min via Victoria, currently every 20min starting at Barking and 20min from Tower Hill, combining to provide a 5min service from Earl’s Court to Wimbledon.
This weekend with the Ealing closure, a revised frequency is operating, with trains from Upminster to Wimbledon every 10min.
