With all the new PA gizmo's now installed on most trains is it possible for the Line Controller to speak direct to passengers on trains in the tunnels or elswhere?
Also I have heard that although drivers are told not to use Ipods and radios etc while in the cab would they get into trouble if they were to relay the radio news to the public in the event of a prolonged Delay?

On trains with OPO alarms (Bakerloo/ Victoria etc) the Controller can talk to the passengers.

The Glasgow Subway is ATO and the controller can talk to the passengers on the trains on it. Must be a passenger safety issue (eg (in a worse case scenario!)if the driver takes ill and there is a fault with the train, then the passengers can receive instructions from the controller).
Would such a system work using the ATO equipment or a radio signal?

On trains with OPO alarms (Bakerloo/ Victoria etc) the Controller can talk to the passengers. Also the Piccadilly (and Central I believe) line. This will only be done (same as Glasgow) if the driver is incapcitated - hence setting off the opo alarm. All the Line Controller will do is reassure the passengers until help arrives. As for ipods and radios - this falls in the same category as mobile phones; it can mean severe disciplinary action!
