Might be a repair? If a small section was damaged they might be one reason. Are there services that needed to be got to? You’d think everything was accessible under the chassis though?

Just a lino repair, most likely due to area "bubbling" and causing a potential trip hazard. No services can be accessed via the flooring.

I'm interested if there's anyone here with experience of rolling stock maintenance who has seen the real life causes - what causes 'bubbling' under the lino of LU trains?

The flooring on the 73,92,95,96 & 09 & S Stocks (72 stock is stuck directly onto a marine plywood floor) are lino base flooring which is stuck directly onto an aluminium floor, as the floors are uneven with seams they are filled with body filler and sanded back, glue is used to stick the flooring down and is then rolled and weighted to ensure a good bond, some flooring has joins and these are areas where water can get in if not glued down properly, and it's critical that the floor lino is grease free and dust free before being laid, the glue is often a 2 pack mix, so mixing is also critical. Often failures occur where their is a poor bond, and water gets under the floor especially around doorways and edges, some floors bubble when an air pocket gets walked on and the lino stretches, giving a bubble.
