Perhaps calling the location "the odd one out" might be throwing a few people. It's more to do with, as already stated, the geographical perspective, along with the links neeed to discover why the said location is "special" on this occasion.....

Is it the only zone 1? If so I ruled it out earlier on the grounds that all the others in different zones too...

Anything to do with Waterloo being an SR station and the others all interchange with the former Eastern Region?

Anything to do with being an interchange for two NR stations, Waterloo and Waterloo East?
BTW is this the first post on V4.5 of the forum?

It is interchange related, but it isn't NR related.

Are the Hammersmith & City and District not two separate lines lines managed by Metro[n|d]e(b)t SSL?

Possibly (are there lifts/escalators at Barking?) but not the answer I'm looking for.

There are stairs to an overbridge at Barking (IIRC) however there are cross platform interchanges possible (to/from the bay and to/from NR services)... How about longest distance between interchanges... W&C to Jubilee is a fair old walk...

Is it something daft like all underground lines are no more than two stops away?

Waterloo connects with three LU lines and the others connect with two?

...or is it that all connections with LU lines are underground

Still no-one has the answer we are looking for.
One must think geographically here.

You're not thinking on a large enough scale. Think about the lines the stations are on rather than the stations themselves.

All lines running through Waterloo are North-South, where the others are East-West? I think...

The Victoria Line at Finsbury Park is North-South, and I think the Waterloo & City is East-West, so it isn't to do with the direction of the lines.
It isn't to do with the trains, and I think I've said this before. Re-read all the comments I've given in this thread.

They all connect with NR trains, within the station, except Waterloo?

It is interchange related, but it isn't NR related. As I think I've said previously, it's nothing to do with the river nowt to do with the river Its nothing to do with zones. think on a larger scale than the individual stations Its not related to electricity, UTS gates, buses or tube stock. It is to do with interchanges, but the time of day isn't important It isn't to do with the trains, and I think I've said this before. Re-read all the comments I've given in this thread.

As you all appear to have given up on this, I'll give you the answer:
Finsbury Park is the easternmost interchange with another LU line on the Piccadilly, Barking the easternmost on the District and Stratford the easternmost on the Central. Waterloo is the odd one out because it is the westernmost interchange between the W&C and another LU line.
