No-one posted this yet ?
loco is L18
In Wembley, apparently the loco moving to/from Alstom for tyre turning at Stonebridge park; that is the Alstom main line heavy maintenance depot, not the LU depot.
As this is off LU, off rail, it can't be breaking any forum rule about incidents, and all the info is in the public domain anyway.

yikes so many damaged vehicles, one of which contained a man who had a *very* lucky escape - yes very much a RTA but how and why?
The comments suggest that either the driver has collapsed in the cab (so cannot be seen) or has run away.
Big insurance claim coming!

The videographer’s YouTube thread confirms no-one was in the cab at the time of his video - he checked. When the driver came back he was interviewed by the Police.
The person posting on Twitter also seems to’ve been on site at the time and reports someone thinking ‘the brakes on the rig came off when they were at breakfast’.

I've had forwarded to me privately a TfL summary entitled "significant network events" which states the lorry "experienced a brake failure" but gives no further details or a source for this.

Are battery locos transported without their batteries? Does this make a big difference to their weight?

I don't know yes or no, but removing the batteries would make a huge difference in the weight (and mass ).

It is a good question. Can't be sure of answer.
I.d be sceptical that batteries are removed for road movements like this notwithstanding the load relief.
I have the current (pun intended) battery weight somewhere, will post when or if I find it.
Having been involved with shifting (fortuneately not the physical labour myself) lead acid cells of a similar amp hour capacity at static UPS sites, the job is massive. I might be wrong but I doubt the man hours costs of de-installing and then re-installing the cells from a battery loco would outweigh anything else. May as well pay the haulier.
I do have the battery weights from some other loks : the GNBPR 1B and 2B locos were 55 ton of which 31 is battery; think that gen came from Workhorses Of the London Underground; the modern day Clayton CDB90 (a.k.a. main line class 18) is 10 tonne Li battery.

You mean you can't just turn it upside down and remove a couple of AAs from the bottom?

I believe one of the modifications made in the recent rebuild of the battery locos is the the batteries are now in modules that can be quite easily removed by forklift truck. So it shouldn't be too hard to take them all out for transport if required.
