I have a question regarding the original d78 body if anyone could help ? - they are unpainted but appear to have a wash on the alloy which makes them appear white- originally they were silver. Im currently undertaking a model project and wish to emulate this 'wash' appearance/aesthetic . if anyone could help me /direct me as to what this process was i would be most grateful.

I'm fairly certain it was simply time that turned them white. There's no more magic to it than that!

When acid washing of the aluminium finish was still a thing, some units became very dirty (compared to others) and sometimes a freshly cleaned unit was paired with a dirty one and the contrast was marked - giving a grey/white combination.

How many trips could a train do on one lot of acid?

How many trips could a train do on one lot of acid? I'd guess it depends on the quality of the acid, but I've not been able to find any reliable sources detailing the effects of LSD on Underground trains

Also the Aluminium finish reacted with the air to form a ‘protective’ layer which was a satin grey/white.
Model painting wise, I recently painted up a unit of 1972 stock and used a white primer with a Mercedes Polar silver spray coating. I then gave it a couple of coats of ultra matt clear varnish.
