The quiz will be one year old on the 1st of February, and I feel that there ought to be a special something to mark the occasion.
If you have any ideas, suggestions, etc for this, or any pictures you think would be suitable then let me know here, by PM or by email (send pictures by email please). I'll need to have it prepared beforehand of course - ideally by the 25th of this month.
Also I'm starting to run low on pictures that are not taken by me (of which I don't think I'll ever run out ), so I'm always receptive to your contributions.
Up until now all but one of the background photos used have been my photographs (one was a picture taken by my now-landlady). Although I have literally thousands of photographs to choose from, only some are suitable. So if you have any that you think would work and you'd like to show off then send them my way.
Often (but not always) the ones that work the best are actually technically quite poor photographs in themselves - ones with lots of un-interesting foreground are a good example. Also ones taken looking along the front or side of a building or wall, or ones where you couldn't quite get back far enough can fit well - as these are the sorts of angles that are not uncommon for photographs of long, thin stations.
Have a look through your collections as there is no restriction on subject (but not pornography, please ) - off the top of my head I think we've had abbeys, castles, fields, islands, rivers, lifeboats, bonfires, museums, heritage railways, Roman remains, the ceiling of a medieval palace in Spain even the view from an observation tower in New Zealand. I can't guarantee to use them, or if I do any time soon, as it really depends on exactly what fits with the main image.
All photos should be in JPG format, and the minimum dimensions for quiz pictures are 640x480, for backgrounds no smaller than 1024x768 is preferable. Bigger is almost always better for both though. Please try and keep the file size below 10 megabytes.
