Hello,
I've a couple of questions about the Drayton Park signal cabin on the Northern City line pre Victoria line. I think I know the answers, but I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable will confirm or correct me.
1) Do the push-pull levers 1-4 also set the crossover points labelled 100, 100? 2) Would a train returning to the depot proceed on the northbound line to AP, the driver switch ends, and proceed via crossover 10 (shunt 9) into the depot?
I've added a signal diagram snippet for the area below, which hopefully illustrates things,
Thanks for your help.

In response to your first question, the answer is yes. I have the 'standard circuits' for the route setting system somewhere and also have some notes which are specific to Finsbury Park somewhere else, though I'm not quite sure where at the present time!
With regards to question 2, it's worth noting that NC3 H/L and NC4 H/L were co-located and NC5L is shown in your diagram considerably further south than it actually was. To bring a train into the depot it would depart Drayton Park and proceed to a limit of shunt sign on 'AL' track circuit (not shown in your diagram), which was 440ft north of NC9. The driver would then change ends and bring the train into the depot via NC9.
(For completeness, after the limit of shunt it was 523ft to the next signal, A72, then a further 1568ft to NC5L, with NC3/4 a further 392ft beyond.)

Thanks, this is really helpful.
Are the details you have (distances) available in a book or other resource I can access?

Supplement to Traffic Circular (Railways) No. 10/1953 was my source, contained in Signalling Record Society Research Note No.42. The LT Museum should also have a copy of the original Traffic Circular Supplement as well. South of Drayton Park I have copies of the Scale Plans from around 1970/71, courtesy of the late Mike Horne.

Although it doesn't have the distances, Harsig does have a diagram showing the area in a bit more detail which you may find helpful www.harsig.org/Northern.php
