www.metromodels.net/Maybe its just a marketing boost (to gain expanded awareness that these products exist) or perhaps the entire Metro Models business was sold, earlier this month, July 2022. I wonder if that means there will be new products? I would very much like to see seating modules added to their range. such as already exist for most of the Radley Models range of London Transport tube and subsurface model trains.

This is news to me! I’ll ask around the industry and see what the deal is.

I have been told that the business was sold to Phoenix paints.
Not sure yet what it means for the product range.

I have been told that the business was sold to Phoenix paints. Not sure yet what it means for the product range. Looking at the pages for the 3D printed model trains there is an option which when clicked reveals information about the required paint colours. But I think these are only oil-based liquid tinlets - not rattle can sprays.

There’s got to be something in it for them I guess. I understand the business wasn’t making much money and the Bachmann release was the final straw!
I’m still toying with the rattle can colours to be honest…

For many people the Bachmann 1938ts will be sufficient for them to have a London Underground tube train - and the high quality interior etc is just icing on the cake.
I am yet to buy any Metromodels trains - I might do so in the future but I'm worried in case the quality of the 3D printing is similar to the Shapeways 3D 'white versatile' printing. The lack of interiors is also a factor although perhaps there are solutions to that.

I bought a D stock recently. Not only was it expensive (£100) but only came as a body and needed a ton of work. It had now begun to warp at cant rail level.

I think that for model trains injection moulded plastic is a better option than 3D printing. But one needs sufficient sales to justify the cost of the moulds whilst 3D printing makes it possible to create the models as and when required - rather than in a large(ish) batch in advance.

With the niche nature of Underground train modelling I cannot see that happening unless large companies get involved like Bachmann did with EFE.

I do not know what Radleys use but its smooth plastic, so far better than what 3D printing a train side with pockmarks that needs a filler primer plus a terrific amount of sanding!

Phil uses resin. It can warp after a bit but hot water sorts it out.
I am working on ways to strengthen the models to reduce this happening.
