Peter is planning to paint a copy of a photograph taken 'many years ago' at Farringdon station.
As seen below, the photograph includes a T Stock train - wooden most likely, so therefore one of the earliest batches.
He is wondering what livery to paint it. Met Railway varnished teak? London Transport brown? red?
I have shown him a photo of the red liveried T stock sleet locomotive that I saw at the 1983 Acton Depot open day. But this is a metal bodied train and its livery might not be correct for the wooden bodied fleet - on this neither of us is sure.
All ideas would be welcomed.
Thank you
Simon

Your photo is of the unique example in Engineer's fleet colour scheme.

Not maroon or red. Either varnished teak, or more likely that faded mid-brown colour used in LT days.

Try this one www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/267893877809109864/This fake teak colour was used by the LPTB initially to save the cost of maintaining the teak finish. In the mid to later 1950s a dark brown was used. Looking at the photo you provided I’d say the earlier colour was used.

Fantastic photo - not just for the trains and their liveries but also for the late lamented style of platform lights. Peter very much appreciated seeing this photo, gave him the clarity that he had been seeking.
