As a regular user of the Uxbridge branch, my journeys to/from have often been flummoxed by a signal failure in the Rayners Lane area. Is there any common reason for the signal failure to keep happening, or sheer poor luck?
Also, is the Uxbridge branch still going to be part of the 4LM scheme at this point, or is the old system going to have to continue for the foreseeable?

The last few days of failures have been down to a blockjoint failure.
Yes the Uxbridge branch will be upgraded but a couple of years yet before you see anything improve drastically.

Just bad luck I’m afraid, many individual items can create a failure. Yes, CBTC will be extended from West Harrow to Uxbridge under SMA 14, probably early-2024

Looks like Rayners Lane will be the last signal cabin on LU, the end of an era that dates back to the first lines! Control will move to the sub-surface lines control centre at Hammersmith.

About 10 years ago I had an interesting day surveying some air conditioning assets on the Met.
This included the cabins at Harrow-on-the-Hill and Rayners Lane.
It felt like stepping into a bygone age even then.

I had many long years playing Scrabble with the regulator in Rayners Lane cabin during my 19 years as a Rayners Lane call point train technician in the 70's and 80's. The 12 hour shifts on a Sunday were Scrabble tournament days and many a Picc and Met service had errr... "slight" delays when a difficult move was thought out. Seem like such innocent days now........

There will be lineside signals controlled by the CBTC system for Piccadilly line trains.
