I notice the Class 66 is out on the Met again.
Why does the class 66 only run on the met and not any other lines.
Also, why does it only run on the fast lines north of harrow?

It's part of Network Rail's leaf-fall mitigations so only runs where Chiltern run.
Also, it won't fit on the Central line.

Surely LU are responsible for that section as it's not Network Rail owned track? So any leaf fall works are carried out by LU?

The working of the Network Rail’s Rail Head Treatment Train (RHTT) is the culmination of various factors both historical and present that are particular to the Metropolitan line and its complex history of inter working. Because of the location of the track maintenance boundaries between NR and LU, it’s just logistically easier to have these trains work all the way through over the Met Main Line.
Even if the RHTT were only tending to the NR tracks leading up to Harrow and after Amersham, they’d still need to be fitted with tripcocks because the nearest reversing points ensuring complete coverage would fall within LU signalled areas. LU likewise would face a similar issue with incompatible train protection systems for the Rail Adhesion Train (RAT) to reach a reversing point on NR metals and the more obvious issue of unnelectrified areas.
Given all that faff required for the sake of sticking to maintenance boundaries, having an agreement where NR work the RHTT on behalf of LU between Harrow and Amersham via the Main Line is a much simpler solution.

I think the NR train runs through the LUL area so as to treat the NR sections either side. There used to be a joke about LUL applying Sandite and NR water jetting it off again...

But was it Network Rail's Rail Head Treatment Train or the Chiltern Railways converted class 117 water jetter? I'm not sure if the latter is still running, but I have seen it in years past. Also, the last time I went out chasing the rail adhesion trains I saw the (then) brand new converted D stock train travelling on the fast line. Maybe though it was not actually laying Sandite when I saw it.

The Class 117 Water Jetter doesn't run now... Part of it is currently stabled at Princes Risborough on the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway, and other bits are somewhere else I think.

Excuse to get this picture out again. 12 years ago at Upminster a 66 on underground metals and on the Upminster-Romford line.
