Hi All,
TFLs website seems to state that the last train to rayners lane is around 0030 from covent garden on a saturday but states that this involves a change at acton town. Do Uxbridge or Rayners Lane trains terminate at acton town at that time?

The first several/last few Uxbridge/Rayners branch trains start from/terminate at Acton Town.
Last through train from central London on Monday-Saturday departs Covent Garden at 24.00. The 00.30 Covent Garden is a train terminating at Heathrow T123, departing Acton Town 00.57 - just cross platforms to catch the 00.59 ex Acton Town to Uxbridge train (last train of the day).

Before the Heathrow extension opened, it was always the Hounslow trains that formed a shuttle from Acton, with the Rayners Lane trains running through!

I took a look at the 0030 train and the interchange gives you only a two minute window at Acton. So if the train is even 2 mins late in reaching acton town, you have effectively missed your connection!

are management or station staff aware of the incoming train being used as a connecting service? I was under the impression that the tfl way is to stick to timetable as opposed to prioritise a single connecting service (have witnessed this many times before when changing at finchley road from a jubilee line train, needing a chesham but it departs without waiting..........30 mins added on to the total journey time)

very slight retiming in new Timetable from 12 September, as Piccadilly, District, H&C and MET are going to ¼ min increments:
Acton Town: Mon – Sat 00.56¾ - 00.59 westbound Piccadilly to westbound Piccadilly 23.54¾ ex Cockfosters due 00.56¾, 00.59 ex Acton Town to Uxbridge Sun 00.02 - 00.04½ westbound Piccadilly to westbound Piccadilly 23.01 ex Cockfosters due 00.02, 00.04½ ex Acton Town to Uxbridge
every ¼min helps!

Do last trains still wait for a green light from platform staff to ensure that all intending passengers are on board? (And that all drunks are cleared from the station to enable it to lock up! Pity the terminal stations having to clear the train for depot!) I go back a long way!

This has not been the case for a number of years now - there is no requirement to ‘lamp out’ last trains.

You still need green light at stations with last train connections ie Finsbury park East bound for last vic line . The last Uxbridge is held in sidings till last Heathrow departs and goes into same platform on the odd occasion when it's let out before it they have took it back into the sidings causing a bit of a delay

Several last train connections are published as such, throughout LU timetables. And the timetable page itself has a column note directly referring to the connections listed in the front pages. Great care is taken when engineering works are operating to update information relating to trains involved in last train connections, or better still leave them in their published timings in the section where the connection applies.

When I joined in 1997 last trains were lamped out at every station and when I switched to trains in 2002 that was still the case. I did nights up until Christmas 2012 so I did a lot of last trains and if a station was unstaffed Wood Lane would inform me in advance. In April 2016 there was a change to Rule Book 8 "Managing the platform train interface" Section 3.6 "Last Trains" where only booked connections listed in the timetables were lamped out. I've not checked but as far as I'm aware that hasn't been changed
