On the bank holiday weekend I was travelling through Paddington and instead of say the Circle Line, H&C and Met being announced as closed for engineering works (I took Bakerloo instead), the announcement only said they were suspended. Why has it changed to this?
BTW posted here as this affects all lines, not just sub-surface

According to my TFL email the entire Hammersmith & City and Circle line were out of service for the whole bank holiday. No reason given. I don't see how you can close the entire H&C for whatever reason line without closing at least part of the Circle line for the same reason. |

Certain information systems can get a bit "confused" when a line that has a planned, partial closure is experiencing disruption on the remaining section that is open. It seems some systems are only capable of indicating one state out of "Planned closure"/"Part closure", "Good service", "Minor delays" etc. So it becomes a question of which ("Part closure" vs. "Suspended" - the latter referring to a bit that was supposed to be running but had to be closed due to disruption) takes priority in what you actually display (or in this case, announce). Perhaps that's what happened here?FWIW, I think "Suspended" would be the better choice to show in such a case, as it's "new" information. A person travelling into London may have checked beforehand and may already know that part of the Circle (or H&C) was closed (as the case may be), but by the time they're travelling they may not be aware of the dsiruption on the remaining sections.

EDIT: I've now managed to find somewhere that lists the planned closures over the BH weekend - it's surprisingly hard to find information about past engineering works! The Circle and H&C were planned to be closed in their entirety, so what I've written above turns out not to be a satisfactory explanation. I'll leave it there as an discussion point nonetheless. |

The Circle Line was planned to be operating Hammersmith-Aldgate over the BH weekend, the shortage of Control room staff prevented this, therefore ‘suspended’ was shown |

I've always disliked the use of the term suspended.
It takes a lot of support to lift a line.
The service is suspended not the line.

Coming back to London, I wonder whether the very impressive works to lower the SSR during the rebuilding of Westminster station without actually closing the line for months on end saw the tracks being suspended 'very frequently' whilst workmen dug down inch by inch? |

ALL listed together! When I clicked on t, the explanations read like an essay!
