Right now the finances are a mess, but who can be sure what they will be like in a few years from now. Its easy to assume and guess, I'd rather wait and see!

Correct. They were listed in the 2011 Bombardier contract that collapsed, but not in the current Thales contract. There were six heritage trains to be equipped - which? 38TS, Q stock, how define a train? i.e. Sarah Siddons one cab with Met No.1 as a train? The scope was only ever for LUL-owned vehicles (and possibly Cravens Heritage Trains’ 60TS? I forget), as opposed to those on hire, and was primarily to support heritage operations away from the interoperable areas. Sarah, 38TS, Q stock and Standard stock certainly covers the majority. Add Cravens 60TS and possible A stock at time gives six! So no provision for Steam on the Met, except limited to interoperable area. I presume an equipped battery loco would have worked with Sarah's train.

However none of the current Mayoral candidates have pinned their colours to the mast to save Heritage operations. The optimist would love to see funds for heritage operations, the realist doubts it will be possible whilst TFL is almost broke, the pessimist knows it will not be possible whilst TFL is broke. For now if people really want to organise charity style events - they may need to aim lower at stuff which is affordable, like sticking a plastic red-nose onto an S7 or two.

Unfortunately, as stated, heritage operations cost money and don’t make it back. The spare A stock trailer is planned to be rebuilt into a generator car for the Q stock to operate off network. The reality is that if you want to travel on an LT heritage train in years to come it won’t be on LUL!

The A stock situation was different when the 2011 Bombardier contract was being drawn up, and there were hopes! Both fell through!

Yes, I’m still gutted about the A stock. ☹️
