Can anyone explain this?
London Overground: No service between Stratford and Richmond / Clapham Junction and Gospel Oak and Barking due to a fire alert at Upminster.

Majority of the North London Line is controlled from workstations located within Upminster Integrated Electronic Control Centre (IECC) where there was a reported fire alarm activation.

"Fire alert in the control room" would be a lot more useful information to give, even if it's technically less precise.

'Upminster' in LU-speak has possibly changed its meaning.
It probably now means 'Upminster Integrated Electronic Control Centre'.
See 'Eurovision', for example.

Eurovision is the network that brings you football matches from Italy and Formula 1 from Monaco. It hasn't changed, people just now associate it purely with the annual Song Contest.
Besides, what has LU-speak got to do with the London Overground?

Will control move from Upminster to Romford?

The average punter can't even work out why a signal failure at Edgware Road would cause severe delays on the Met! "Edgware Road isn't on the Met Line!" I remember having a conversation with someone on a platform about it, analogous to how a road delay can affect other roads for miles around.

Will control move from Upminster to Romford? My understating is the transfer London Tilbury & Southend routes to Romford has now been abandoned. Upminster IECC will instead be modernised to the standard the enlarged Romford Rail Operating Centre (ROC) was due to be elevated to.

I remember having a conversation with someone on a platform about it, analogous to how a road delay can affect other roads for miles around. This is perhaps a failure of the idea that all the TfL routes are independent "lines" that are colour coded and implied entirely separate - the Met does have (technically) different rolling stock after all.

It does seem like Network Rail has cooled off a little from their ROC concept. Like happened when the costs put Railtrack off their planned Network Management Centre concept, this time apparently Covid has thrown up resourcing issues at such places which were never envisaged. I’m not sure if it’s simply that a virus outbreak on an operating floor could wipe out a pretty large proportion of the network, or more nuanced than that.

Question has been answered. Any further discussion of Upminster Control Centre can take place in a new thread please!

Besides, what has LU-speak got to do with the London Overground? I'll try and re-phrase it to (hopefully) make my meaning plain. "Perhaps 'Upminster' in railway operators' jargon has come to mean 'Upminster Integrated Electronic Control Centre', rather than just the name of the suburban town in East London, in the same way that 'Eurovision' has, in popular press jargon, come to refer to 'The Eurovision Song Contest', instead of 'The Television Service of the European Broadcasting Union'". If anyone requires further clarification, feel free to ask...
