The Realtoy (and various other brands) 1992 stock model has been available for probably twenty five years now. It's a decent enough model, albeit to the unusual scale of 1:100(ish), with a very basic chassis, only available as driving cars, and with the interpretations of the standard LU livery having become less accurate with time. I've seen quite a few on display in TfL offices and occasionally wondered how much of the 1992 stock fleet could be recreated if they were all gathered together...
I remember seeing this version in United Airlines colours for sale years ago and assuming it was fictitious - only much later did I discover the prototype it was based on, the late 1990s promotional livery worn by a 1973 stock.
Discovering one on eBay recently, I picked it up for a bargain price and was very pleased to discover wasn't just in its original box, but still sealed and unopened!
The end of the box features a 1967 stock train in something resembling the old track recording car livery?
The rear of the box mentions there being 270 tube stations, suggesting the model must postdate the opening of Wood Lane in 2008. Given the "prototype" was out of United Airlines livery by the end of 1998, that makes the model much more recent than I thought. Unless they're rounding up the 1994-1999 total of 269 stations operational?
Out of its box for the first time ever, the paint finish is impressively good for a toy, and much better than some of the standard liveried versions of the same model I've seen on sale recently. The stripe width and logo placement aren't totally faithful to the original promotional unit, but then neither is the type of train.
Coupled with up with a pair of corporate liveried cars I've had since I was a kid it's a nice addition to the display that sits behind me when I'm giving Hidden London's virtual tours over Zoom!
